This paper focuses on the impact of Russia and China in the worldwide energy market. This article first appeared in the January issue of IPAA's America's Independent magazine. January 2005
This paper discusses various myths and realities that are shaping the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Politics, economics, and international affairs have awoken LNG from its slumber to position the fuel in the transforming matrix of Amercia's energy. The specific role of LNG in North America's natural gas portfolio, the pricing issues, supply and demand nuances, regulatory issues, and capacity constraints should all be taken into consideration. LNG is not a panacea but will supplement conventional and non-conventional production closer to home. March/April 2003 This paper focuses on the resurgence of Russian oil production and the evolving interplay with role players on the global oil market. Russia's production ramp-up challenges OPEC (particularly Saudi Arabia) in the near-term but are the reserves sustainable in regard their long-terrm growth potential? The pace of Russia's political and economic reform has broad repercussions on the investor-friendliness of the energy sector and the experiences of various companies are illustrated for those weighing international against domestic risk. September/October 2003 This paper focuses on the interplay between OPEC, oil fundamentals, energy security, and market risk. This evolving political economy of the petroleum market and OPEC's inherent role highlight various issues that affect supply scenarios in the short term, medium term, and long term. The scope of these endeavors is by no means conclusive or all-encompassing but rather a synthesis of data and analysis that can supplement your operating strategies and business decisions.
